Smart Cities: Sustainable Urban Mobility-on-Demand

Smart Cities: Sustainable Urban Mobility-on-Demand

I ran into this TEDxBoston Talk a couple of months back. If we look at it we can see how the concept of a sharable, collapsible, rechargeable CityCars, GreenWheel bicycles, and RoboScooters can transform transportation in our most congested cities by operating within an intelligent, wireless grid that understands when, where, and how we want to travel.

Do we have the infrastructure to support this kind of transformation?
Do we have the economic and social incentives in make this happen today? How long is it going to take?

  1. What I find interesting about this is that it is a high tech, complex, and maybe overkill? I can't help but think there are some great intermediate steps in between -- taking a page from European cities in the use of standard bicycles maybe? reexamining city layouts and traffic flow etc?
